A missing shadow ?

Are you implying that Raj used the Xi version? Although it looks very similar, Dimage Xi is actually a completely new and improved model with 3.2Mpix and the appropriate "DiMAGE Xi" model tag in EXIF data, as you can see from sample images here - it's definitely not the same camera model with firmware upgrade.

I'll try to check (again) what happens with EXIF data after saving one of your sample images in PS CS2... if I remember correctly, that is where EXIF version changes to 2.2.

What do you mean? Dimage X should be the correct model, judging by EXIF data in Raj's images. The point I was trying to make is that different EXIF version was more likely because of some later modification to Raj's images (after they were extracted from the camera), rather than difference in firmware. And Dimage Xi is IMO out of the question - a completely different model.

Yes the Xi is a completely different model.  I only brought it up to show that the X model was shipped until the Xi came out in late 2002.

Notice the exif version did not change.  As I stated earlier, we found some DimageX pics on flicker with Exif 2.2.  I believe a change was made by the manufacturer sometime towards the end of the production run.  This when the standard changed.

I personally think 1111 has some valid points in his latest posts on OMF, I looked at all the photos I made but I couldn't find a shadow of the main ring on the main arm, they are all washed out by reflections of the main ring.
Of course the angles are not totally correct yet, but I don't think that matters much.

I read his explanations, which I found rather useless,
since the amount of light in the two images is totally different.
This 1111 would try to make sense about anything.

I agree the amount of light is different but not totally different, I didn't really noticed it before on my photo's, but this really is another thing to add to the to do list.
But I'm not sure I can recreate that in real live, there has to be a lot more ambient light coming directly from below to do that.
